SPRS At The Rescue

During the 2018-2019 financial year SPRS responded to 81 “call outs” to emergency situations through the SPRS paging system to members. These “call outs” were initiately largely via the Victorian Water Police.

The 2018 – 2019 statistics are an increase of approximately 35% on 2017 -2018.

Emergency situations included seaching for boats, swimmers, divers, jet skis, kayakers and providing assistance to boat owners when their vessels had run aground, broken down or broke away from their moorings.

In these 82 emergency situations, 179 members of the public were rescued and an estimated vessel value of $2.56M. SPRS members contributed a total of 447 volunteer hours to undertake these rescues utilising 3691 litres of petrol at a total cost of $5,819.

SPRS average response time from call out to on water was 16.8 minutes well within the expected response time of 30 minutes.

In addition to emergency situations, SPRS also provided safety support to the Sorrento Bay Swim, Portsea Swim Classic, Pier to Perignon Swim and Melbourne to Hobart Yacht Race.

SPRS have a total of 25 members(including inactive members).
